PTT: Zebrania Zarządu Głównego

18 listopada o 11.30 w Centrum Seminaryjnym Wydzialu Mechatroniki Politechniki Warszawskiej ul. św. A. Boboli 8 (dawna Chodkiewicza 8), odbędzie się otwarte plenarne zebranie Zarządu PTT. Zebranie poprzedzone będzie dwoma wykładami, a następnie zaprezentowane zostaną prace nad Kroniką i projektem „Who is Who” Towarzystwa. Połączone będą z dyskusją dotyczącą prezentowanych tematów.

    "Fizyko-chemiczne podstawy dla wyboru komponentów na elementy trące bezasbestowe"
    Physico-mechanical approaches to the choice of components and design of asbestos-free frictional composites with the polymer matrix are discussed. Wear mechanisms of high-filled frictional composites containing structural plasticizers and friction modifiers of the non-elastomeric type are substantiated.
    Heat-generation and transfer processes in the rubbing solids at non-stationary friction are considered and the results of modeling temperature fields in friction pair materials of the disc brake at multiple braking are discussed.

    „Informacje o pracach rozwojowych w Meta-Polimer Instytucie w Homlu w sferze triboinżynierii.”
    Information on the developments of the Institute in the sphere of triboengineering materials science is presented. Problems of creation of polymer composites with preset properties and their use in various industrial domains are discussed.

1. ITC's 30th Anniversary - 24th September 2003

On the 24th September 1973, at the last meeting of the main organising committee of the first European Tribology Congress, it was decided to re-constitute the European Congress Organising Committee as the International Tribology Council to be an association of National Tribology Societies & Groups and - where such Societies did not exist - Societies and Groups of Societies interested in theoretical and applied aspects of tribology, but restricted to scientific, technological and educational matters.

The foundation document forms part of the minutes of that meeting and is in the archives of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, London, United Kingdom.

Objectives laid down are still unaltered. They are:

  1. To maintain a live and continuous contact between tribology and kindred societies and groups anywhere in the world.
  2. To help tribology and kindred societies and groups to keep each other informed of their activities, in particular their forward programmes.
  3. To ensure that its international congresses are arranged at agreed intervals; however the organisation of such congresses would be conducted by the respective Host Society or Societies.
  4. To facilitate exchange of views, comments and opinions on tribological matters between member societies and groups.
  5. To advise and assist - where requested - in the founding of tribology societies in countries where such societies do not exist.
  6. To assist through international co-operation in matters connected with tribology science, technology and education.
  7. To undertake such other actions within the field of tribology science, technology and education, whether pure or applied which at least three quarters of all member groups or societies desire it to do.
The founder members of the ITC were Tribology Societies or Groups from France, West Germany, India, Japan, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, United Kingdom, USSR and Yugoslavia. After 30 years the ITC has 36 members worldwide. The Council itself is universally recognised and has become a Corresponding Member of UNESCO.

The Founder Members of the ITC and the Societies and Groups that joined it since 1973 can be proud of their achievements during the past 30 years, including the highly successful 4 yearly Congresses held in the UK, Germany, Poland, France, Finland, Hungary and Austria - the next to take place in the USA in 2005. The combination of many international tribological bodies has helped the promotion of tribology as well as that of its member societies.

Member societies may feel that, within their country, some recognition or reference would be appropriate on the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of the International Tribology Council.


2. The Bournemouth International Conference on Tribology in Environmental Design 2003

An international conference in Tribology in Environmental Design took place on 8th - 10th September at the University of Bournemouth.

Unlike most international conferences that are held, that at Bournemouth, was a conference for experts. They came from seventeen countries from as far as Australia, China, USA, Canada and Russia as well as European countries, to interchange views and to solve any unsolved problems. This produced an exchange of specialist experiences, which proved to be of value to all participants.

The environmental and sustainability aspects of Tribology Design are increasing in importance. At the Bournemouth Conference underlined the importance of this generic interdisciplinary subject was underlined.

The conference was organised by Professor Mark Hatfield of the Sustainable Product Engineering Research Centre at the University of Bournemouth.

3. Three Honours for ITC President

For his achievements and work in Technology, and particularly Tribology, the University of Central Lancashire bestowed the University's Honorary Fellowship on ITC's President, Professor H. Peter Jost. Other recipients of this honour included Nobel Prize-winner Professor Seamus Heaney.

The University of Leeds named the new Chair of Tribology the Jost Chair of Engineering Tribology.

The University of Central Lancashire, named the newly established Institute, the Jost Institute of Tribotechnology. Details of the Institute can be found elsewhere in this issue.


4. Leeds University appoints two Professors in Tribology

The University of Leeds has appointed Professor Martin Priest to the Jost Chair of Engineering Tribology and Professor Anne Neville to a Chair in Tribology and Surface Engineering.

Before joining the University's Institute of Tribology, founded by Professor Duncan Dowson, Professor Priest was for nine years active in the University's Industrial Unit, the body set up by the then Government to assist industry to solve tribological problems.

Professor Anne Neville made her reputation at Herriot Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland.

In our world of change, caused by escalation affects of technological developments, the combination of two top-ranking Professors of the new generation and the supporting staff can be seen as a manifestation of the University's determination to maintain a leading position in tribology.


5. NORTRIB 2004

11TH Nordic Symposium on Tribology has been changed and will now be held on 1st to 4th June 2004.


6. Death of Aleksandr Yul'evich Ishlinskii (6.08.1913 - 7.02.2003)

Aleksandr Yul'evich Ishlinskii was an outstanding scientist of the twentieth century.

Born on 6 August 1913 in Moscow, Ishlinskii started his studies at the Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty of the M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University. His Master's thesis was on "Rolling friction" (1938) and his Doctor's thesis on "The mechanics of incompletely elastic and viscoplastic bodies" (1943). From 1945 onwards he was a Professor at the Moscow University.

In 1964 he became Director of the newly founded Institute of Mechanics Problems (IPMekh) of the USSR Academy of Sciences, which he led until 1989. Under his leadership, the institute became the largest scientific centre in the country in the field of mechanics, inter alia specialising in tribology.

For many years, his attention was drawn to the mechanics of the motion of rapidly rotating rigid bodies, especially gyroscopes, in which field he became a world authority.

Academician Ishlinskii published over 300 scientific papers and wrote several basic monographs. His scientific, organisational, pedagogical, and social activity was highly valued by his country.

He was the first President of the All-Union Council of Scientific and Technical Societies, Honorary President of the Russian Engineering Academy, President of the World Federation of Engineering Organisations, Vice-President of the World Federation of Scientists and President of the Scientific Council on Friction and Lubrication USSR Academy of Science (1963-1988). He was a foreign member of the Academies of Science of Poland and the Czech Republic, and of engineering bodies in Great Britain and Mexico.

Academician Ishlinskii had a sharpness of mind, competence, correctness, and benevolence. His judgements were deeply thought out, and his assessment of events and people was sober and balanced.

He himself defined his place in the world and his attitude of life as: "A scientist is not a politician; he must get on with his own affairs and influence the surrounding world, in the main, using the laws of nature that he has discovered."

7. Jost Institute for Tribotechnology

A new Institute for Tribotechnology

The activities of an active group of tribologists at the University of Central Lancashire (UK) have boosted by the formation of a new institute for Tribotechnology in a joint venture by the Faculty of Design and Technology at the University and a charitable trust. The new institute is be called the "Jost Institute for Tribotechnology", to recognise Dr. H. P. Jost's personal support for this initiative and to honour his contribution to the development of the subject of tribology.

Its mission "to foster the development of new knowledge, to engage in the dissemination of best practice and to encourage the exchange of knowledge in Tribotechnology to bring economic, environmental and social benefits to society."

It will be based within a new L4.2m Computing and Technology building. It will be the first institute of Tribotechnology in the UK and will provide a focus for undergraduate teaching, research in Tribotechnology and a range of technology transfer activities which aim to bring together the suppliers and users of Tribotechnology together to reduce the impact of friction and wear on business and the economy. The Institute will also have an important international role in providing executive support for the International Tribology Council. "The creation of the Jost Institute for Tribotechnology is both a recognition of the existing strength of the University in this field and of its tremendous potential for the future. In collaboration with other partners, the Jost Institute will make a major contribution to research and development in Tribotechnology and to its practical application in industry."

The Institute will develop new areas of specialist tribological expertise with an emphasis on industrial relevance, notably in the areas of condition monitoring, the use of hard and soft coatings for wear resistance and micro/nanotribology. The Institute will also develop a range of educational and design resources for tribologists and promote the use of information technology within tribology.

The Jost Institute for Tribotechnology will operate at a regional, national and international scale. It already has many prestigious links with industrial and academic partners both nationally and overseas, and will maintain a special working relationship with the Institute of Tribology at the University of Leeds.

8. Chinese Tribology Institution

Professor Zhang Siwei has been elected Chairman of the Chinese Tribology Institution.

Professor Li Shanghua, who is Professor of the State Key Laboratory of Tribology at Tsinghua University, Beijing has been appointed Secretary to report to ITC two events of an International nature:

  1. In August 2002 the Institution held its 7th National Tribology Meeting at Lanzhou, Gansu, China. During this meeting, Professor Zhang Siwei of the University of Petroleum was elected to be the new president of CTI.
  2. The first CTI-STLE joint meeting was held in October in Tsinghua University, the subject being New Tribological Frontiers and Future Trends.
The success of the meeting led the two Societies to agree on bilateral meetings every two years, alternatively in China and in the USA.

The CTI is now helping Chinese tribologists prepare for the 5th WTC to be held in 2005.

Summary
In the paper the requirements for tools, sheets and technological lubricants used for sheet metal forming processes were discussed. The test results of frictional coefficient for some technological lubricants and antiadhesive layers were given.

TRIBOLOGICAL WEAR OF COMPOSITE Ni-P-Al2O3COATINGS DEPOSITED BY AN ELECTROLESS PROCESS

Summary

Results of the wear investigations of hard composite coatings deposited on Al + 1%Mg + 0,4% Si substrate are presented in this paper. Coatings obtained by electroless method contained Ni - 6,5% P matrix and 3 mm Al2O3 particles with volume fraction apr. 30%.
Tribological tests were carried out on pin - on - disk apparatus. Composite coatings were deposited on 60 mm disk made from an aluminium alloy. The pins were prepared from alloy steel hardened at 32 and 54 HRC, respectively.
Conditions of tribological tests: contact force of 10-50 N, sliding velocity of 0,1 m/s, sliding distance of 1000 m, dry friction.
Microstructure, homogeneity and hardness of the composite coatings were investigated before tribological tests. Wear rate of composite coatings and steel countersamples were identified. Tribological tests were carried out for two different shapes of reinforcing particles - irregular and spherical. Wear rate of composite layer was compared with the wear rate of Ni-P matrix.
Influences of counterspecimen hardness on wear rate of coatings and countersamples are also presented.

Streszczenie

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań zużycia twardych powłok kompozytowych wytworzonych na podłożu ze stopu Al + 1% Mg + 0,4% Si. Wytworzone metodą redukcji chemicznej powłoki o osnowie Ni - 6,5% P zawierały fazę dyspersyjną Al2O3 o średnim wymiarze cząstek ok. 3 mm i udziale objętościowym rzędu 30%.
Próby tribologiczne przeprowadzono na maszynie z węzłem tarcia w układzie trzpień-tarcza. Powłoki kompozytowe nanoszone były na tarcze ze stopu aluminium o średnicy 60 mm. Stosowano trzpienie ze stali o różnej twardości, tj. 32 i 54 HRC. Próby przeprowadzono na sucho przy następujących wymuszeniach: obciążenie 10-50 N, prędkość tarcia 0,1 m/s, droga tarcia 1000 m.
W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań wytworzonych powłok, ich mikrostruktury, jednorodności i twardości. Zbadano przebieg zużywania warstw kompozytowych, określono także zużycie stalowych przeciwpróbek. Badania prowadzono dla dwóch postaci cząstek zbrojących - nieregularnych i kulistych. Zużycie powłok kompozytowych porównano ze zużyciem nieumocnionych powłok Ni - P. Określono wpływ twardości przeciwpróbek na zużycie trących się materiałów.

STRUCTURAL ASPECTS OF POLYMER FRICTION

Summary

Chemical composition and physical structure of polymers were characterized from the point of view of their potential influence on friction. Macromolecular structure, molecular constitution of polymers as well as specific features of their spatial network decide different, in comparison to other engineering materials, behaviour during friction process. Special attention was paid to the surface layer of polymers, which exhibits different constitution and structure from the bulk of material - gradient nature of polymers. Experimental results concerning phenomena and processes taking place in the surface layer and their effect on friction of polymer materials have been presented.

Streszczenie

Scharakteryzowano budowę chemiczną i strukturę fizyczną polimerów z punktu widzenia ich potencjalnego wpływu na tarcie. Struktura makrocząsteczek, cząsteczkowa budowa polimerów oraz specyfika węzłów sieci przestrzennej decydują o odmiennym, w porównaniu z innymi materiałami konstrukcyjnymi, zachowaniu się w procesie tarcia. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono warstwie wierzchniej polimerów, która ma odmienną budowę od wnętrza materiału - gradientowa natura polimerów. Przedstawiono wyniki badań zjawisk i procesów dotyczących warstwy wierzchniej i spowodowaną tym modyfikację tarcia materiałów polimerowych.

INFLUENCE OF ION IMPLANTATION ON FRICTION OF POLYETHYLENE

Summary

The subjects of investigation were thin films (1 ¸ 2 µm) of polymer casted from solution on silicon substrate Si (100). The materials studied were polyethylenes of various molecular weight (Mw = 4000 ¸ 6000000 ), crystallinity (Xc = 32 ¸ 92) and degree of macromolecular branching of (LLDPE - HDPE/UHMWPE). Differences between Ar+ and He+ interaction with the surface layer of polyethylene, depending on structure of material, were found. Ion bombardment, within the investigated dose range, resulted in growth of hardness of polyethylene except UHMWPE (for which material it decreased). Due to the treatment the surface of polyethylenes grew in polarity and developed its geometry. The higher effects were observed for Ar+ ion implantation.

Streszczenie

Przedmiot badań stanowiły cienkie powłoki polimerowe (o grubości =1 ¸ 2 µm) wylane z roztworu na podłoże krzemowe Si (100). Jako materiału użyto polietylenów różniących się ciężarem cząsteczkowym (Mw = 4000 ¸ 6000000), stopniem krystaliczności (Xc = 32 ¸ 92 ) lub stopniem rozgałęzienia makrocząsteczek (LLDPE - HDPE/UHMWPE). Stwierdzono różnicę w oddziaływaniu jonów Ar+ i He+ z powłoką polimerową w zależności od struktury materiału. W wyniku bombardowania jonami w stosowanym zakresie dawek, twardość badanych powłok polietylenowych rośnie, z wyjątkiem UHMWPE, w przypadku którego maleje. Modyfikacji towarzyszy wzrost polarności oraz rozwinięcie powierzchni materiału. Zaobserwowane efekty są większe w przypadku implantacji polimerów jonami argonu.

Summary

Anterior communicating artery and periattachment anastomosis (Hyrtl anastomosis) these are the arteries were aneurysms more frequently occur than in other arteries. This paper is an attempt of theoretical elucidation of technical conditions of increasing of aneurysms, occur in these arteries. It was ascertained that is very probably, in increasing and in cracking of aneurysm take place manner of blood flowing. Creating, increasing, and cracking of aneurysm is dependent on: shape of blood vessels and changing of this shape, properties and blood composition, friction of flowing blood corpuscles.

Streszczenie

Tętnica łącząca przednia oraz zespolenie okołoprzyczepowe (Hyrtla) to tętnice, w obrębie których tętniaki występują częściej aniżeli w obrębie innych tętnic. Niniejsza praca jest próbą teoretycznego wyjaśnienia uwarunkowań powiększania się tętniaków występujących w obrębie tych tętnic. Ustalono, że jest bardzo prawdopodobne, iż w powiększaniu się i pękaniu tętniaków istotną rolę odgrywa sposób przepływu krwi. Powstawanie, powiększanie się i pękanie tętniaków zależy od: kształtu naczyń krwionośnych i zmiany tego kształtu, właściwości i składu krwi, tarcia przepływających krwinek oraz od zmieniającego się ciśnienia krwi.

Summary

The obtained results from researches of durability of bearing in car starter have been presented in the paper. The geometry of sintered bearing influences the durability and reliability of bearing system in car starter. The increasing of the begin value of bearing clearance results in decreasing of durability of bearing in car starter. For lower value of rotational speed the decreasing of durability of bearing is lower. The durability and reliability of repaired bearing can be close to the durability and reliability of new bearing. Even after the third repairing the bearing can work without increasing of resistance of motion, of value of temperature and of vibration. After the third repairing of bearing the car starter should be changed for new one.

Streszczenie

W referacie zaprezentowano wyniki badań trwałości łożysk rozrusznika. Geometria łożysk rozrusznika decyduje o ich trwałości i niezawodności. Wzrost początkowej wartości luzu powoduje spadek trwałości łożysk. Dla mniejszych wartości prędkości obrotowej spadek trwałości jest mniejszy. Trwałość i niezawodność łożysk nowych i naprawianych mogą być zbliżone. Nawet po trzeciej naprawie nie zaobserwowano wzrostu wartości momentu tarcia, temperatury i amplitudy drgań w łożyskach. Po trzeciej wymianie panewek rozrusznik powinien być wymieniony na nowy.

Summary

The paper presents analytical approach based on experimental results of investigation into single and double acting passive axial magnetic bearings which contain permanent magnets made of ferrite, strontium ferrite, and the NdFeB compound. In such a bearing the axial force applied from outside will impose a load to the one of the bearing, at the same time unloading the second one. In such a bearing the change of the load will cause the establishment of the other new state of equilibrium. It is the self - acting fitting to the load operating on the rotor.

Streszczenie

W opracowaniu przedstawiono wyniki eksperymentalnych badań jednostronnych i dwustronnych pasywnych wzdłużnych łożysk magnetycznych z magnesami trwałymi, wytworzonymi ze związku Nd-Fe-B. Uzyskane z badań eksperymentalnych nośności łożyska magnetycznego porównano z wartościami nośności uzyskiwanymi w łożyskach ślizgowych smarowanych hydrodynamicznie.
W łożysku jednostronnym wykorzystywany jest, zaznaczony na wykresie - Rysunek 2, zakres wartości szczeliny od smin do smax. Zbudowanie łożyska o mniejszej wartości szczeliny niż smin = 0,5 mm wymaga starannego wykonania montażu i dużych sztywności łożyskowanego wału, ponieważ, ze względu na błędy kształtu i montażu, stan powierzchni i odkształcenia robocze, nie można dopuścić do styku metal-metal. Wartości szczeliny większe od wartości smax = 1,0 czy 1,5 mm mogą nie mieć zastosowania ze względu na dopuszczalne przemieszczenia łożyskowanego wałka.
W przypadku łożyska magnetycznego dwustronnego, po zmontowaniu łożyska, układ znajduje się w stanie równowagi, podczas którego każde z łożysk przenosi obciążenie wzdłużne. Stan równowagi możliwy jest przy takich samych wartościach sił poosiowych z obydwu części łożyska, tylko przeciwnie skierowanych - Rys. 4. Zmontowanie następuje przy określonej wartości luzu osiowego, tj. przy szczelinie łożyskowej s = s1 + s2. Jeden z magnesów połączono z wirnikiem, dwa pozostałe z nieruchomą obudową. Łożyskowany wałek może się teoretycznie przesunąć ze stanu zmontowania do wartości s1 lub w przeciwnym kierunku do wartości s2. W rzeczywistości zakres maksymalnych przesunięć jest mniejszy o wartość błędów kształtu i położenia, które przewiduje się w trakcie projektowania łożyska lub które istnieją w zmontowanym łożysku. Siła osiowa przyłożona z zewnątrz dociąży jedno z łożysk, jednocześnie odciążając drugie.
Zmiana szczeliny Ds, po przemieszczeniu sę obciążonego siłą osiową wałka, pozwala wyznaczyć, z charakterystyk każdego z łożysk, siły P1 i P2, działające po obu stronach łożyska. Łożysko zajmie nowe położenie równowagi, dla którego obciążenie zewnętrzne P = P1 - P2. Kolejna zmiana obciążenia zewnętrznego spowoduje ustalenie się innego, nowego stanu równowagi - Rys. 4.
Jednostronne łożyska wykonane z nowych materiałów, o wysokiej gęstości energii, mają jednostkowe wartości nośności (na jednostkę powierzchni roboczej magnesu) porównywalne z wartościami ciśnienia w łożyskach ślizgowych, smarowanych hydrodynamicznie. Ciągle jeszcze dla łożysk tradycyjnych, z tarciem mieszanym, wartości obciążenia jednostkowego są większe. Na przykład wartości dopuszczalnego obciążenia jednostkowego dla łożysk stosowanych w obrabiarkach, turbinach, sprężarkach itp. urządzeniach zmieniają się w granicach od 5,49 MPa do 8,23 MPa - dla pary ciernej stop ołowiowy-stal, zaś dla pary ciernej stop ołowiowy alkaliczny lub kadmowy - stal od 8,24 MPa do 10,29 MPa.
Obciążalność dwustronnych łożysk magnetycznych jest mniejsza niż łożysk jednostronnych. Dzięki wysokowydajnym materiałom magnetycznym, magnetyczne łożyska dwustronne osiągają wartości nośności takie jak niektóre łożyska precyzyjne i niektóre łożyska maszynowe. Ze względu na liczne zalety, pomimo mniejszych dopuszczalnych obciążeń, należy polecać łożyska dwustronne tam, gdzie tradycyjnie są obecnie stosowane łożyska ślizgowe.

DETERMINATION OF DURABILITY OF ROLLING NODES IN CYCLOIDAL GEAR WITH CORRECTED MESHING

Summary

Planetary gears are commonly used in drive systems and they have many advantages. Relatively the smallest planetary gear is cycloidal gear - known as Cyclo. That gear uses inside out of centre meshing that assures occuring rolling friction only in power transmission. Basic problem in Cyclo gear design is determination of fatigue life of the three characteristic nodes where contact load is dominating. These nodes are:
  • central bearing node on eccentric shaft,
  • rolling bearing node in straight-line mechanism,
  • setting of active teeth of planet wheel interacting in rolling contact with rollers of co-operating wheel.
Durability of individual rolling nodes of Cyclo gear depends, among others, on state of load. Distribution of loads in gear can be determined for a single position of drive shaft assign, calculating distribution of forces to individual teeth and bolts of straight-line mechanism. Analytical method used for that determination neglects however the influence of planetary motion on the values of meshing forces and reaction forces in straight line mechanism. That influence can be discovered by numerical calculations of state of load of selected individual positions of drive shaft. Numerical calculations with application of FEM has been made for nominal as well as for corrected meshing because assembling of that gear can be made after application the correction.
In the paper it has been proposed a method to generalise distribution of forces between teeth and forces in straight-line mechanism resulting from different positions of drive shaft. Distributions of forces after generalising have been subsequently used for calculation of fatigue life of rolling nodes in Cyclo gear with nominal meshing and in real gear with corrected meshing. The hierarchy of durability of basic rolling nodes of Cyclo gear has also been presented.

Streszczenie

W obiegowej przekładni cykloidalnej występują niekonwencjonalne węzły toczne w układzie przeniesienia mocy od wału wejściowego do wału zdawczego. Trwałość poszczególnych węzłów tocznych przekładni Cyclo zależy między innymi od stanu ich obciążenia. Rozkłady obciążeń w przekładni można wyznaczyć dla jednego położenia wału napędowego, jednakże pomijany jest wtedy wpływ ruchu obiegowego na wartości sił międzyzębnych i sił oddziaływania w mechanizmie równowodowym. Wpływ ten można jedynie ujawnić wykonując numeryczne obliczenia stanu obciążenia dla wybranych reprezentatywnych położeń wału napędowego. W pracy przedstawiono wyniki obliczeń numerycznych, z wykorzystaniem MES, przeprowadzonych dla nominalnego zazębienia i dla przekładni z korygowanym zazębieniem oraz zaproponowano sposób uogólnienia rozkładów sił międzyzębnych i sił w mechanizmie równowodowym wynikających z różnych położeń wału napędowego, umożliwiający prognozowanie trwałości zmęczeniowej.

Summary

In the paper are described the research results SGP (St, Sa, Sds) of worn cement heads of artificial Weller hip joints operated from 5-7 years (11 heads), 10-14 years (19 heads), and 18-20 years (6 heads).
The scanning of head surfaces have been performed with induced Talyskan 150 head equipped with diamond contact tip made by Rank Taylor Hobson Company. The area covered by scanning was 1 x 1,5 mm2. The data received have been handled by computer program Talymap 3.0.
The researches results certify that all numerical values of amplitude parameters decrease significantly as duration of observation time rises [p < 0,001]. The highest numeric values of parameters were detected on head surfaces which had been exploited the shortest time and the lowest on the heads exploited the longest time.
The significant dependence between parameters results from the comparison of amplitude parameters SGP of heads [p < 0,01 - 0,001].
While numeric value of one parameter turn then increases the numeric value of compared parameter.

Streszczenie

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań SGP (St, Sa i Sds) zużytych 36 głów sztucznych stawów biodrowych Wellera usuniętych operacyjnie z powodu aseptycznego obluzowania po 5-7 latach (11 głów), 10-14 latach (19 głów) oraz 18-20 latach (6 głów).
Skaningi powierzchni głów wykonano indukcyjną głowicą Talyskan 150 z diamentową końcówką pomiarową firmy Rank Taylor Hobson. Skanowaniem objęto obszar na głowach wielkości 1 x 1,0-1,5 mm2. Otrzymane dane poddano obróbce komputerowej za pomocą programu Talymap Expert.
W badaniach stwierdzono znamienne zmniejszenie wartości liczbowych wszystkich badanych parametrów amplitudowych w miarę wzrostu czasu obserwacji [p < 0,001]. Najwyższe wartości liczbowe SGP stwierdzono na powierzchniach eksploatowanych najkrócej, najniższe na głowach usuniętych po 18-20 latach.
Z porównania parametrów amplitudowych SGP badanych głów (Sz od St, Sds od St i Sds od Sz) wynika, że pomiędzy nimi występowały znamienne zależności [p < 0,01-0,001]. Ze wzrostem wartości liczbowych jednego parametru zwiększała się wartość porównywanego parametru.

Summary

The matters under discussion there are results of research work on water lubricated main shaft bearing of ship.
Research work was done on special test stand witch has wide measurement possibilities (Fig. 1). We can record coefficient of friction, shaft trajectory, pressure between shaft and bearing, rotation speed, pressure and water flow in different condition like: rotation speed 3 to 11 [1/s], load 1 to 5 [kN], pressure of water 0,2 do 3 [bar], water flow 10 and 20 [litres/min].
Bearing was designed and made by famous producer and mounted in special bush (Fig. 2).
The main problem of work was to check possibility of hydrodynamic lubrication.
Some examples of results of measurements work were shown (coefficient of friction Fig. 3 and 4, pressure between shaft and bearing Fig. 5 and 6, shaft center trajectory Fig. 8, 9, 10).

Referat prezentuje część wyników uzyskanych w trakcie badań eksperymentalnych polimerowego łożyska okrętowego wału głównego smarownego wodą.
Zademonstrowano uzyskane w trakcie pracy badawczej wykresy współczynnika tarcia, rozkładu ciśnienia na obwodzie pomiędzy czopem a panwią oraz trajektorii środka czopa.

AN EVALUATION OF THE MAINTAINING ABILITY OF THE LUBRICATING LAYER BY THE SHAFT SURFACE MICROPROFILE CO-OPERATING WITH OIL LIP SEAL

Summary

At the beginning of the shaft motion it comes to the direct contact of the shaft surface irregularities with the sealing lip; it influences the power consumption and lip wear. One should from the shaft surface in such manner in order some oil quantity could be absorbed and kept in the micro-valleys through possibly longest period. Then build-up of the lubricating layer on particular irregularities will be possible at the initial moment of the shaft motion.
Authors prepared indirect evaluation method of the shaft surface ability to absorb and preserve the oil; it relies on the periodical rotation (10 min.) and stand-by (10 min.) of the shaft. The total time of test amounted to 40 hours.
It appeared, that depending on the shaft surface ability to absorb the oil as well as on the amplitude frequency distribution one could find the different wear rates of the sealing lip. There were presented recommended values of the roughness parameters ensuring low wear rate.

Streszczenie

Wiadomo, że chropowatość powierzchni wału znacząco wpływa na zużycie krawędzi uszczelniającej elastomerowego uszczelnienia wargowego, na wysokość oporu tarcia oraz na poziom szczelności. Trwają intensywne prace nad ustaleniem optymalnej chropowatości powierzchni, optymalnej ze względu na opór tarcia oraz poziom szczelności. W niniejszej pracy przyjęto tezę, że należy tak kształtować mikropowierzchnię wału, aby pewna ilość oleju mogła być zaabsorbowana i utrzymywana w mikrowgłębieniach przez możliwie najdłuższy czas. Założono, że podczas postoju wału olej nie zostanie wyciśnięty przez wargę uszczelniającą z mikrowgłębień i w chwili ponownego uruchomienia wału olej ten będzie tworzył warstwę smarną na poszczególnych występach nierówności.
W tym celu przyjęto specjalną procedurę badania pary ciernej wał-uszczelnienie wargowe polegające na okresowym włączaniu i wyłączaniu wału. Czas pracy wału wyniósł 10 minut, po czym następował okres 10-minutowego postoju i tak na zmianę w okresie 40-godzinnego testu.

Summary

The results of stand investigations of porous bearings are presented in this article. Four different greases - based on mineral and on synthetic oils were used as lubricants. The influence of chemical constitution on working parameters of bearings is presented. Over hundred hours of stand investigations were done. Working temperature and resistance to motion were measured during stand investigations.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań stanowiskowych łożysk porowatych. Cztery różne smary - na bazie olejów mineralnych i syntetycznych zostały użyte jako środki smarowe. Przedstawiono wpływ składu chemicznego na parametry pracy łożysk. Wykonano ponad 100 godzin badań stanowiskowych. W trakcie badań mierzono temperaturę pracy łożysk i opory ruchu łożysk.

In the paper the possible ways of develping actions concerning the Bones and Joint Decade (2000-2010) were given. A role of material engineering and biotribology in implantology was discussed. Both technical achievements of biotribology and medical application of new solutions used in moveable pairs of endoprostheses were pointed out.

Summary

In the paper the increase in demand for both knee and hip endoprostheses in 1990-2000 was given. Destructive processes occurring in frictional pairs of endoprostheses were presented. Test results concerning the influence of surface treatment on the increase in wear resistance of Ti6Al4V titanium alloy were given.

W pracy podano wzrost zapotrzebowania na endoprotezy stawu biodrowego i kolanowego w latach 1990-2000. Naświetlono procesy destrukcyjne występujące w węzłach trących endoprotez. Summary

This work presents preliminary tests related to the effect of triboelectrization process on the frictional and wear properties of phenol formaldehyde based composites. The composites triboelektrization modification properties includes the use of salicylidene aniline complexe compounds with transition metals such as zinc and copper. The friction and wear characteristic of the obtained composites were estimated using T05 apparatus. The triboelectric measurements were carried out by means of triboelectrometer (patent RP nr 177210) for the above mentioned composites and their components.
The obtained results showed that there is a relationship between the friction and wear properties of the tested composites and their triboelectric properties.

W pracy przeprowadzono badania dotyczące wpływu procesu triboelektryzacji na właściwości tarciowo-zużyciowe kompozytów na bazie żywicy fenolowo-formaldehydowej oraz wysokodyspersyjnego PTFE. Dla zmodyfikowania właściwości triboelektrycznych kompozytu wykorzystano związki kompleksowe pochodnych salicylidenoaniliny z dwuwartościowymi jonami metali przejściowych cynku i miedzi. Charakterystyki tribologiczne otrzymanych kompozytów wyznaczono na testerze tribologicznym T-05. Pomiary triboelektryczne składników kompozytu oraz utwardzonej żywicy fenolowo-formaldehydowej modyfikowanej wyżej wymienionymi związkami kompleksowymi wykonano na triboelektrometrze (patent RP nr 177210).
W celu doboru związków kompleksowych o optymalnych właściwościach triboelektrycznych wykorzystano symulacje komputerowe. Przy pomocy programu HyperChem 5.0 wyznaczono dla badanych cząsteczek związków kompleksowych, rozkład potencjału elektrostatycznego, który jest wyznacznikiem ich właściwości triboelektrycznych.
Wyniki badań wskazują na istnienie zależności pomiędzy właściwościami tarciowo-zużyciowymi badanych kompozytów a ich właściwościami triboelektrycznymi.

Summary

The author has been investigated relationship between dependence of a resistance to motion and wear of steel-steel tribological system lubricated with hydrocarbons upon its working temperature. It was shown that at 80-100oC the resistance to motion and wear are the lowest. This is a result of tribochemical conversions of hydrocarbons coming from the base oil. Products of this changes form protective layers composed of hydrocarbons, carbonyl compounds, carboxylates as well as esters and their derivatives, which are locally bounded with friction surface. During friction chemical structure of external layer are also modified by built-in carbon and oxygen atoms.

Streszczenie

W pracy badano zależność oporów ruchu i wielkości zużycia węzła tarcia stal-stal, smarowanego węglowodorami od temperatury. Stwierdzono, że najmniejsze opory ruchu i zużycie występują w temperaturze 80-100°C. Zjawisko to jest następstwem tribochemicznych przekształceń węglowodorów obecnych w oleju bazowym. Produkty tych przekształceń wytwarzają na powierzchni tarcia warstwy ochronne, które składają się z węglowodorów, związków karbonylowych, karboksylanów, a także estrów i pochodnych tych substancji. Produkty te są lokalnie związane z powierzchnią tarcia. W trakcie tarcia zachodzi także przebudowa struktury chemicznej warstwy wierzchniej, polegająca na wbudowaniu w nią węgla i tlenu.

Summary

The article is an analysis of damage to centrifugal pumps used in brewery industry, in particular considering mechanical seals. The object of research its working conditions were characterized as well as the results of the survey were presented. It turned out that the most unreliable pomp parts are bearings and seals. Operating durability of seals were described as well. It was established, that in most cases, seals suffer damage due to vibrations. Reasons of the damage mechanical seals is also wear of sliding face. The wear profilogram and undamaged surface was performed for comparing.

Streszczenie

W pracy zanalizowano przyczyny uszkodzeń pomp wirowych pracujących w browarze ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem uszczelnień czołowych stosowanych w tych pompach. Scharakteryzowano obiekt badań, warunki jego pracy oraz przedstawiono wyniki badań. Stwierdzono, że najbardziej zawodnymi elementami pomp wirowych są łożyska i uszczelnienia. Określono niezawodność eksploatacyjną uszczelnień pracujących w zbliżonych warunkach. Ustalono, że uszczelnienia najczęściej ulegają uszkodzeniom wskutek drgań w wyniku, których dochodzi do przedwczesnego zużycia powierzchni roboczej pary ślizgowej lub utraty funkcji innych elementów zespołu uszczelnienia. Przyczyną uszkodzenia uszczelnień jest także zużycie ścierne powierzchni pierścieni. Dla porównania powierzchni pierścieni: prawidłowo funkcjonującego oraz uszkodzonego wykonano profilogramy chropowatości tych powierzchni.

The paper describes erosive wear intensity of acrylic coating of different thickness (128-487µm) and hardness (28-77) for alundum particles glancing angles) a = (30,45,60)°. Minimum erosive wear was obtained for coating of mean thickness 218 µm and hardness 31.5 (acc. to Buchholtz).

W artykule opisano intensywność zużywania erozyjnego powłok akrylowych o różnej grubości (128-487µm) i twardości (28-77), dla kątów padania cząstek elektrokorundu a = (30, 45, 60)°. Minimalne zużycie erozyjne osiągnięto dla powłok o średniej grubości wynoszącej 218 µm i twardości (wg Buchholza), wynoszącej 31,5.

MODIFICATION OF OILS TRIBOLOGICAL PROPERTIES WITH USE OF METAL POWDERS

Summary

Examples of metal nanoparticles and other nanostructures use in various branches of technology are presented in the paper. Because of unique chemical, electrical and optical properties of nanostructures they may be used or have been already used in nanoelectronics, medicine and chemical technology.
Possibilities of nanoparticles in the form of nanopowders utilization in the area of production technology and terotechnology have not been yet satisfactory examined and number of publications concerning this mater is rather small. The paper discusses preliminary examinations concerning possibilities of metal nanoparticles use for tribological properties modification of lubricating and cutting oils. Results of presented examination as well as examination made before on basic oils used for composing lubricating oils and cutting oils testify to visible influence of the oils modification with metal micropowders and nanopowders on their tribological properties increase. Addition of metal micropowders as well as nanopowders to oils causes decrease of frictional resistance in lubricated with their help joints and decrease of cooperating elements wear - also elements made of materials used for cutting tools like high- speed steel and sintered carbides. The influence of size of particles added to oil on tribological process run should be also emphasized. It was noticed that the smaller metal particles are the better they flow in an oil volume and do not undergo sedimentation. Beside this, smaller particles of nano size easier than particles of micro size reach the friction zone and better react with frictionally cooperating (rubbing) surfaces.
Discussed in the paper examination is of initial nature and is aimed on recognition of possibilities lying in modification method of cutting oils tribological properties with nanopowders of metals use.

W artykule omówiono przyklady zastosowań nanocząstek metali, a także innych nanostruktur w różnych dziedzinach techniki. Ze względu na unikalne własności chemiczne, elektryczne i optyczne nanostruktur, przewiduje się ich zastosowanie lub już znalazły zastosowanie nanoelektronice, medycynie i technologii chemicznej.
Możliwości wykorzystania nanoproszków w obszarach technologii wytwarzania i eksploatacji nie zostały jeszcze dostatecznie zbadane, a publikacje na ten temat są nieliczne. Prezentowany artykuł omawia wstępne badania rozpoznawcze w zakresie możliwości zastosowania nanoproszków metali do modyfikacji właściwości tribologicznych olejów smarowych i smarująco-chłodzących olejów obróbkowych. Wyniki prezentowanych badań, a także badań wcześniejszych, wykonanych dla olejów bazowych, używanych do komponowania zarówno olejów smarowych, jak i olejów obróbkowych, dokumentują wyraźny wpływ modyfikacji tych olejów za pomocą mikroproszków i nanoproszków metali na poprawę ich właściwości tribologicznych. Dodatek zarówno mikroproszków, jak i nanoproszków metali do olejów powoduje zmniejszenie oporów tarcia w smarowanych nimi węzłach oraz zmniejszenie zużycia elementów współpracujących, w tym wykonanych z materiałów stosowanych na narzędzia skrawające (stali szybkotnących i węglików spiekanych). Należy także podkreślić wpływ wielkości cząstek proszku metalu, dodawanego do oleju, na przebieg procesu tribologicznego. Stwierdzono, że im cząstki metalu są mniejsze, tym łatwiej unoszą się w objętości oleju i nie podlegają sedymentacji. Poza tym, mniejsze cząstki o wielkości nano łatwiej osiągają strefę tarcia i lepiej reagują z warstwami powierzchniowymi, współpracujących tarciowo elementów.
Omówione w artykule badania mają charakter wstępny i są ukierunkowane przede wszystkim na rozpoznanie możliwości tkwiących w metodzie modyfikacji właściwości tribologicznych zarówno olejów smarowych, jak i olejów obróbkowych, polegającej na dodawaniu odpowiednio dobranych (pod względem jakościowym i ilościowym) nanoproszków metali.

Summary

In the article short review on investigations of permeability is presented. Basic properties of the porous bearings and mineral gear oil have been examined. Then permeability investigations of porous sliding bearings for mineral gear oil at the temperature of normal bearing operation have been performed. Achieved results of preliminary investigations show that in the chosen range of temperature (40-60°C) there is no relationship between permeability of the bearing and temperature of flowing oil.

W artykule przedstawiono krótki przegląd badań przepuszczalności. Zbadano podstawowe właściwości łożysk porowatych i przekładniowego oleju mineralnego. Następnie przeprowadzono badania współczynnika przepuszczalności porowatych łożysk ślizgowych dla oleju przekładniowego. Osiągnięte wyniki wstępnych badań wskazują, że w wybranym zakresie temperatury (40-60°C) współczynnik przepuszczalności łożyska porowatego nie zależy od temperatury przepływającego oleju.

W pracy podane zostały równania ruchu cieczy w łożysku porowatym o skończonej długości i stosowane uproszczenia dla łożyska o nieskończonej długości oraz dla łożyska wąskiego. Szczegółowo omówiono założenia przyjęte przez Camerona dla łożyska wąskiego oraz przeprowadzono obliczenia porównawcze rozkładów ciśnienia i nośności łożyska obliczone wg wzorów Camerona oraz dla łożyska porowatego o skończonej długości.

MODELLING OF THE CROSSING RESISTANCE OF WARP THREADS IN SHED FORMATION

Summary

The resistance that has to be overcome by the warp threads in shedding is important because of the degree of destruction of threads and the amount of work expended on shed formation. A method of measuring the resisting force together with the relevant test arrangement and test conditions is presented. There are also presented some curves of force variation with time and distance, and the curves are analysed with the objective to reveal their characteristic features. The work involved with the crossing of warp in shedding and the amount of energy dissipated in this operation are determined and analysed. Also the character of damping of the warp motion is determined. Upon qualitative analysis of the curves of forces the crossing resistance of warp threads in shedding is decomposed into friction between the crossing threads and friction between the threads and their respective healds. The accurately established empirical data are used for verification of the shedding models described in the relevant literature. The new empirical shedding model determined on the base of their characteristic features is presented and verified.

W nowoczesnych mechanizmach nicielnicowych siła oporu generowana przez mijające się nitki osnowy podczas zmiany przesmyku jest istotna nie tylko z uwagi na ich niszczenie. Siła ma istotny udział w nakładzie pracy łożonej na tworzenie przesmyku. W referacie przedstawiono metodę pomiaru tej siły, stanowisko badawcze, uwarunkowania pomiarowe. Zaprezentowano przykładowe przebiegi siły w dziedzinie czasu i drogi i dokonano analizy pod kątem wydobycia charakterystycznych cech; określono i badano pracę mijania osnowy, czyli energię dyssypowaną w tej czynności; określono charakter tłumienia ruchu osnowy. Na podstawie analizy jakościowej charakterystyk siłowych rozkłada się opór mijania na tarcie między gałęziami nitek i tarcie o struny nicielnic współpracujących. W oparciu o dokonane empiryczne ustalenia zweryfikowano opisane w literaturze modele otwierania przesmyku i własny empiryczny model. Zaprezentowano porównanie przebiegów siły tłumiącej oraz ruchu nicielnicy z przebiegami pomiarowymi. W konsekwencji dokonano oceny proponowanego modelu pod kątem jego charakteru i wpływu na zaburzenie ruchu nicielnicy oraz energii dyssypowanej za jej pośrednictwem.
Jednym z czynników stanowiących o oporach ruchu mechanizmu nicielnicowego jest czynnik technologiczny. Nicielnice tworząc przesmyk pokonują siłę oddziaływania napiętej osnowy, która ma charakter zasadniczo sprężysty. W pewnych mechanizmach nicielnicowych oddziaływanie to może być wykorzystywane przy zamykaniu przesmyku do częściowego odzyskania energii łożonej na pracę mechanizmu. Innym czynnikiem technologicznym, nieodzyskiwalnym, jest opór mijania gałęzi przesmyku. Jest to siła zależna od liczności i sczepliwości osnowy, wywołująca podczas otwierania przesmyku dyssypację energii. Szczególnie znaczącą wartość przybiera na początku otwierania hamując ruch nicielnic, zaburzając czystość przesmyku, zwiększając napinanie, zginanie i ścieranie nitek, ścinając i wyrywając ich włókna, a więc pod każdym względem działając szkodliwie [L. 4]. Siłę tę nazwano technologicznym tłumieniem ruchu nicielnic.

Summary

The abrasive wear resistance searching plan of heat-hardening hybrid laminates about ablation properties, methods and results of research as well as theirs analysis and conclusions are presented.
It is qualified the qualitative and quantitative influence of components (Al2O3 and C powder, glass fabric - as material of filler and amplification as well as - as material of heat-hardening matrix - phenol formaldehyde resins) onto intensity of abrasive waste of laminate.

W referacie przedstawiono charakterystykę, plan badań doświadczalnych, metodykę oraz wyniki przeprowadzonych badań tribologicznych, ich analizę i wnioski dla grupy termoutwardzalnych laminatów hybrydowych o właściwościach ablacyjnych.
Do badań tribologicznych - wykonanych na testerze T-07 zgodnie z zaleceniami producenta (ITeE w Radomiu) - przygotowano próbki hybrydowego kompozytu termoutwardzalnego o osnowie z żywic fenolowo-formaldehydowych (Modofen 54S - ciecz, Nowolak MR - proszek), napełniaczach włóknistych (warstwy tkaniny szklanej o gramaturze 250 g/m2 i splotach ukośnych) oraz sypkich (mieszanina Al2-O3 i pyłu węglowego - ziarna komponentów 2÷5 mm), cechującego się szybkością ablacji (prędkość tworzenia się żużlu szklistego pod wpływem działania płomienia acetylenowo-tlenowego o temperaturze 3000oC rzędu dziesiątych części mm na sekundę).
Skład fazowy próbek oraz liczba wykonanych doświadczeń wynika z przyjętego planu doświadczenia, tj.: macierzy pełnoczynnikowej I rzędu 23, gdzie 3 zmiennymi niezależnymi są: relacja wagowa napełniacza Al2O3 do sumy wag obu napełniaczy, ilość warstw tkaniny szklanej, łączny wagowy udział żywic fenolowo-formaldehydowych; funkcją odpowiedzi zaś - odporność na zużycie cierne kompozytu podczas tarcia o luźne ścierniwo.
Technologia wykonania próbek polega na utwardzeniu sprasowanego laminatu, składającego się z uprzednio przesyconych częścią żywicy warstw tkaniny szklanej, przedzielonych mieszaniną napełniaczy sypkich i żywicy - w temperaturze żelowania 150oC w czasie 1 godziny w metalowej zamkniętej formie z zastosowaniem docisku.
W oparciu o wyniki badań określono jakościowy i ilościowy wpływ wskazanych komponentów na odporność na zużycie tribologiczne kompozytu.

Summary

The influence of friction on the character of strains occurring during plastic working is known. Nevertheless, a quantitative description of the phenomenon is still posing a big research problem. Despite the application of good technological lubricants frictional resistance during hot metal forming processes such as: forging, extrusion or pressing are high - µ = 0.15-0.37. Friction occurring between a deformed material and tool restrain material flow and as a result high strain heterogeneity occurs in the forging. Sometimes the deformed material cracks.
Intensity of tool wear resulting from frictional resistance also has an essential influence on a product quality (a forging), especially its shape and dimensions.
In the paper an attempt to analyse a frictional pair: "forging - anvil" was made. Experimental tests carried out with such frictional pair are difficult and the obtained results are not sufficient. Therefore numerical analysis can complete knowledge in this area. Finite element method was used for the description of friction in open die forging. Thermal and mechanical model, which takes into consideration heat resulting from friction, work of plastic deformation and material properties depending on temperature, was used.
The results of computer simulation of the open die forging process for different frictional condition were given.

Znane jest zjawisko wpływu tarcia na charakter odkształceń w obróbce plastycznej, jednak jego ilościowe opisanie wciąż stanowi ważny problem badawczy. Opory tarcia występujące w procesach kształtowania metali na gorąco takich jak: kucie, wyciskanie czy prasowanie są stosunkowo wysokie i wyrażają się wartościami µ = 0.15-0.37, pomimo stosowania odpowiednio dobranych smarów technologicznych.
Tarcie występujące pomiędzy odkształconym metalem a narzędziem hamuje płynięcie metalu, co powoduje występowanie dużej nierównomierności odkształceń w przekroju odkuwki, a nawet w skrajnych przypadkach występowanie pęknięć. Istotny wpływ na jakość wyrobu (odkuwki) zwłaszcza na jej cechy kształtowo-wymiarowe wywiera również duża intensywność zużycia narzędzia, będąca funkcją m.in. oporów tarcia.
W pracy podjęto się analizy węzła tarcia, jakim jest odkuwka i kowadło do kucia swobodnego. Badania doświadczalne tych par trących jest dość trudne, a uzyskane wyniki nie zawsze są wystarczające. Analiza numeryczna uzupełnia lukę w badaniach i rozszerza zbiór danych na ten temat. W pracy użyto metody elementów skończonych do opisania zagadnienia tarcia w procesie kucia swobodnego. Zastosowano termomechaniczny model zagadnienia uwzględniający ciepło tarcia, pracę odkształcenia plastycznego i właściwości materiału zależne od temperatury. Praca zawiera wyniki symulacji komputerowej procesu kucia swobodnego przy różnych warunkach tarcia.

Summary

A research program on friction induced vibrations in a ceramic sliding contact (Al2O3) was carried out on th PT-3/99 tribometer at the chair of Machine Design and Maintenance at the Gdańsk University of Technology. Vibrations were observed with frequencies and amplitudes being functions of both: sliding velocity and load applied to the sliding contact. Two general modes of friction induces vibrations were identified with a frequency and amplitude pattern distinctive for each of the modes. A dynamic model of test head of the tribometer, treated as a multi - mass system was created. The model was divided into two dynamic sub - systems, each associated with one of the specimens in the friction test pair. It was observed, that each of the sub - systems can give a separate response to the input parameters on one of the sides of the sliding friction contact surface. The frequency of the response is specific to the characteristics of the sub - system. A transfer of vibration across the contact surface was also observed.

Streszczenie

W trakcie prowadzonych w Katedrze Konstrukcji i Eksploatacji Maszyn Politechniki Gdańskiej, na Tribometrze PT-3/99 badań drgań wywołanych tarciem w ślizgowym skojarzeniu próbek ceramicznych (Al2O3) zaobserwowano samowzbudne drgania cierne o częstotliwościach i amplitudach zmieniających się w szerokim zakresie w funkcji obciążenia i prędkości ślizgania. Zidentyfikowano i scharakteryzowano dwa główne rodzaje drgań ciernych, różniące się wyraźnie częstotliwością i amplitudą. Na podstawie analizy modalnej elementów tribometru, potraktowanego jak wielomasowy układ drgający każdemu z rodzajów drgań, przyporządkowano odpowiednie do częstotliwości postaci drgań. W głowicy stanowiska badawczego wyodrębniono dwa układy drgające rozdzielone powierzchnią styku ciernego, każdy z nich jest przyporządkowany do jednej z badanych próbek. Stwierdzono, że w zależności od wartości wymuszeń każdy z układów daje odpowiedź poprzez wzbudzanie drgań po jednej ze stron powierzchni styku ślizgowego, o postaciach i częstotliwościach odpowiednich dla właściwości dynamicznych danego układu. Zaobserwowano również przenoszenie się drgań między układami poprzez powierzchnię tarcia. Prezentowane w referacie wyniki uzyskano na podstawie eksperymentów stanowiących kontynuację badań, których wyniki przedstawiano w latach poprzednich.

Results are presented from tribological research of a conformal flat reciprocating sliding contact of 300 grade cast iron and AK12 aluminum alloy (AlSi13Mg1CuNi), which was subjected to laser remelting of the working surface under cryogenic conditions. A series of tests was carried out on TPZ - 1 reciprocating tribometer, with SAE 20W/40 grade mineral motor oil. Data on friction and wear (measured continuously) as a function of sliding distance was recorded.
An assessment of relation between tribological performance of the tested materials and the parameters of laser processing was carried out.

Streszczenie

Przedstawiono wyniki badań tribologicznych skojarzenia: żeliwo szare 300 i stop odlewniczy aluminium AK12 (AlSi13Mg1CuNi) o powierzchni obrobionej metodą laserowego przetapiania w środowisku ciekłego azotu. Na tribometrze TPZ-1 wykonano serię badań opisanego skojarzenia w warunkach ślizgania w ruchu posuwisto-zwrotnym, przy smarowaniu olejem silnikowym SAE 20W/40. Zarejestrowano przebieg oporów tarcia w funkcji czasu (drogi tarcia) oraz zużycia mierzonego w czasie rzeczywistym.
Porównano opory ruchu skojarzenia i odporność próbek na zużycie, w zależności od parametrów technologii obróbki powierzchni próbek wykonanych ze stopu Al - Si.

Summary

The paper presents results of investigation on diesel oil containing rape methyl ester (RME) and commercial additive obtained using a lubricity estimation method elaborated at Radom Technical University. Idea of the method is based on a physico-chemical model of the running-in processes in the system: metal - lubricant - metal, that occur in the frictional pair of the four-ball apparatus. The obtained results allowed to discriminate all investigated compositions: base diesel oil - lubricity additive from the point of their lubricity properties.

Artykuł prezentuje wyniki badań oleju napędowego, zawierającego dodatek estru metylowego kwasów oleju rzepakowego (RME) oraz handlowego dodatku smarnościowego, uzyskane za pomocą opracowanej w Politechnice Radomskiej metody oceny właściwości smarnych. Koncepcja metody opiera się na fizykochemicznym modelu procesów zacierania i docierania w układzie: metal-środek smarujący-metal, zachodzących w styku skoncentrowanym, w aparacie czterokulowym. Wyniki uzyskane za pomocą prezentowanej metody pozwoliły na rozróżnienie wszystkich badanych kompozycji: bazowy olej napędowy - dodatek pod względem właściwości smarnych.

Summary

The paper presents results of lubricity properties investigation obtained using two versions of the four-ball apparatus. Lubricity properties were estimated using a model of physical breaking of the lubricating layer in a concentrated contact and analyzing acoustic emission signal from the kinematic pair. The obtained results allowed to state that every run of tribological process is accompanied by its proper acoustic emission signal. Authors proposed application of coefficient of amplitude attenuation as a descriptor of the tribological system state.

Streszczenie

W referacie przedstawiono wyniki badań właściwości smarnych uzyskane z wykorzystaniem dwu wersji aparatu czterokulowego. Do oceny właściwości smarnych zastosowano model fizycznego przerwania ciągłości warstwy granicznej w styku skoncentrowanym oraz analizę sygnału emisji akustycznej w węźle tarcia. Na podstawie uzyskanych wyników stwierdzono, że przebiegowi każdego procesu tribologicznego towarzyszy właściwy mu sygnał emisji akustycznej. Zaproponowano współczynnik tłumienia amplitudy jako deskryptor stanu systemu tribologicznego.

INTRODUCTION
About twenty years ago a new paradigm - a concept of structural levels of deformation of solids - was formulated. Over the past years this concept has been treated theoretically and tested experimentally. This gave rise to the development of a new scientific trend - Physical Mesomechanics, which allows one to relate mechanics of the solids under loading to the physics of plasticity and strength.
Physical Mesomechanics considers solids under loading as a multilevel self-organized system where shear stability loss occurs in a self-consistent way at micro-, meso- and macroscale levels. A basic act of plastic flow is "shear+rotation". It gives rise to dissipative mesostructures and fragmentation of solids at the mesolevel. Fracture is the final stage of fragmentation of solids where its global shear stability loss occurs at the macrolevel. In last ten years a large body of experimental and theoretical research of behavior of solids under loading were done at micro-, meso- and macroscale levels. The results of these investigations allow one to refine understanding of the mechanisms of deformation and fracture of solids in various conditions of loading.
Physical Mesomechanics was the topic of several international conferences took place in Russia, Israel, Germany, China and Denmark.

SCOPE

The Workshop is intended for discussion of fundamental features and engineering applications of Physical Mesomechanics.
Application of the methods of Physical Mesomechanics to the problems of heterogeneous material response to different loading, fatigue and wear; nondestructive testing, experimental and computational methods, hardening and reconditioning technologies, materials for electronics will be in the focus of the Workshop. A special session will be devoted to geodynamics.
There will be Plenary sessions including key-note lectures. Round table and poster sessions will also be organized.

The 5th Euromech fluid conference

August 24-28, 2003 The European Mechanics Society is an international non-governmental non-profit scientific organisation.

The objective of the society is to engage in all activities intended to promote in Europe the development of mechanics as a branch of science and engineering. Mechanics deals with motion, flow and deformation of matter, be it fluid or solid, under the action of applied forces, and with any associated phenomena.

Letter of the Chairman

The next European Fluid Mechanics Conference will be held in Toulouse (France) from August 24 to August 28, 2003. This conference, organised under the auspices of EUROMECH by the Institut de Mécanique des Fluides de Toulouse, will be the fifth in the series started in Cambridge in 1991 and continued in Warsaw (1994), Göttingen (1997) and Eindhoven (2000). The conference will cover the whole field of Fluid Dynamics, ranging from very fundamental aspects to recent applications. This conference will provide a unique opportunity for fluid dynamicists to see what is going on in this very active field in Europe and to exchange their views on recent developments. The conference will comprise invited lectures, oral presentations, poster sessions, and three mini-symposia dealing with selected topics. Selection of papers will be made on the basis of a one-page abstract. Following the general policy of EUROMECH Conferences, no proceedings will be published.

November 1, 2002: Registration possible on the Web site.
December 10, 2002: Deadline for abstracts submission (1 page). Texts must follow the guidelines sent out and given on the Web site. The authors must also specify preference for an oral or a poster presentation.
January 10, 2003: Deadline for application for young researchers' fellowships.
March 1, 2003: Notification of acceptance (oral or poster). Preliminary programme is drawn up and made available on the Web site.
April 1, 2003: Notification of acceptance of fellowships for young researchers.
May 1, 2003: Deadline for registration at a reduced fee. Registration deadline for authors of oral presentations. Final programme available on the Web site.
June 30, 2003: Deadline for payment at a reduced fee and for the reservation of pre-booked hotel rooms.

The two Euromech Young Scientist Prizes 2003 will be attributed at the end of the Conference. These prizes, 500 euro each, will reward the best oral and poster presentations given during EFMC2003 by scientists less than 35 years old at the time of the conference. To apply to these prizes, young contributors must send an electronic mail to the EFMC2003 Conference Office (efmc2003 @ imft.fr) before December 10, 2002. This e-mail must specify the date of birth of the applicant, his or her address and the title and number of his or her abstract. Note that applicants must be the presenting author of their contribution (oral or poster).

Paticipants less than 35 years old at the time of the conference may apply for a partial financial support. To this end, after having submitted their abstract, they have to send a short vitae, a motivation letter and a copy of their abstract (all three in PdF format) to the e-mail address: fyrefmc @ imft.fr.This package must be sent not later than January 10, 2003. The possibility for a financial support will be examined only for those of the applicants whose abstract will have been accepted by the Euromech Fluid Mechanics Conference Committee. The decision will be notified by electronic mail, not later than April 1, 2003.

Sattelite Workshop:
International Workshop on Surface Physics
Location and Time: Polanica Zdroj, Poland, September 13 - 15, 2003

The International Workshop on Surface Physics is intended to replace the International Seminar on Surface Physics that was organized by the Institute of Experimental Physics of the University of Wroclaw in the years 1976 - 2000. During the last few years it has become clear that the original formula of the Seminar, which was intended as a platform for exchange of ideas between the scientist from the "East" and "West", is exhausted.
We decided to switch the formula to a more typical workshop gathering surfacists, experimentalists and theoreticians, working on rapidly developing research field of surface science. The program of the Workshop is built around 10-12 invited talks presented by the world leader scientists. Certain number of contributed papers (10) will be selected for oral (20 min.) presentations and the other will be displayed as posters. Proceedings of the meeting will be published.
There will be ample time for discussion. Emphasis will be put on the creation of maximum opportunities for informal discussion and the facilitating of direct person-to-person exchanges of ideas about new developement. The idea is to encourage stronger contacts between the young scientists and the senior figures of various fields. There will be young scientists presentations.

The theme of the oncoming workshop will be:

Smart Surfaces in Tribology:
Advanced Additives and Structured Coatings

Introduction

This meeting is organised jointly between the Brussels section of the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE, Brussels Section), the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research (EMPA) and Tribology Letters (Kluwer Publishing). It is aimed at people from industry and academic institutions, who have a shared interest in recent developments in elucidating the mechanisms of additives in forming protective coatings, as well as the increasing use, by coating manufacturers, of highly structured approaches to improving wear resistance.

Subjects cowered by this meeting will include

  • new additives and new insights: chemistry and mechanisms of wear and friction reduction
  • techniques for the fabrication of structured surfaces
  • physical and chemical properties of surfaces that lead to wear protection
  • the use of surface analytical approaches for the characterization of coating and additive properties

    Guidelines for abstracts

  • Abstracts should be written in English and no longer than one A4 page

Introduction

This is the ninth in the very successful series of conferences which have firmiy established surface topography as a new and exciting interdisciplinary field of scientific and technological studies. Recent advances in measurement techniques have extended the scope of roughness measurements to much smaller scales and many new results wait to be reported. On the other hand, the methodology and techniques of roughness measurement and characterisation have been extended to quite different fields of technological application with fascinating results.

Scope

The measurement, characterisation and analysis of surface roughness on any scale. This is to include experimental, theoretical and computational work. Conference subjects will include: Bioengineering; Nano surfaces; Surface measurements; Instrumentation; Topological characterisation of surfaces; Tribology; Industrial applications; Optical surfaces. There will be a special emphasis this year on applications of 3D measurement.

Aims

The aims of the Conference are as before, to bring together practising engineers and research workers in a forum where the latest work can be reported, and where the progress made since the last Conference can be discussed and assimilated so that its benefits may be transferred to industry and to scientists and engineers in other disciplines.

Exhibition

It is planned to hold an exhibition of surface measuring equipment in conjunction with the Conference and on the same site. Organisations interested in exhibiting should contact the Conference Secretary for further details.

Workshop

There will be a one-day tutorial workshop on the preconference day on the theory and practice of surface roughness, with the opportunity for hands-on use of the latest measuring instruments.

Venue

The conference will be organised this year by Halmstad University, currently one of Sweden's leading centres for research in surface topography. This is oniy the second time that the Conference has been heid at a continental European venue and it will be an excellent opportunity for oyerseas visitors to experience traditional Swedish hospitality in beautiful Halmstad, one of the most popular seaside holiday resorts in northern Europe. The actual conference venue will be the Hotel Tylosand, in a spectacular beach setting with extensive leisure facilities which will be available to delegates.

Offers of Papers

Potential authors should forward titles and extended abstracts to the Conference Secretary by 1 ApriI 2003. These should be not longer than two A4 sides and should include the authors' names and affiliations. Papers selected for presentation, either in formal sessions or as posters, need not be submitted in their final form till the date of the conference. Authors whose abstracts are accepted will be given detailed instructions for the preparation of manuscripts or posters. Abstracts and papers should be submitted by email to surfconf0 @ set.hh.se. Up-to-date information about the Conference will be available on the Conference home page at www.capaximp.demon.co.uk

The Organising Committee apologises for the short notice of this announcement. The 9th Conference was originally planned to take place at Miskolc in Hungary in ApriI 2003, but unfortunately circumstances have necessitated its postponement. Anyone who submitted an abstract for the Hungary meeting is warmiy invited to resubmit it to Halmstad. Priority will be given to any such resubmissions.

XXVI Szkoła Tribologiczna nt.: Problemy Tribologiczne w Przyrodzie i Technice została połączona z VI Konferencją nt.: Problemy Niekonwencjonalnych Układów Łożyskowych. Każda z tych konferencji będzie miała odrębne sesje.

Konferencja odbędzie się w Ośrodku Hotelowo - Turystycznym nad jeziorem Czorsztyńskim w Niedzicy, w dniach 16 - 19 września 2003.

W ramach przygotowywanej konferencji organizatorzy pragną połączyć tematykę wynikającą z biotribologii z projektami, aplikacjami, problemami eksploatacyjnymi, badaniami modelowymi i użytkowymi węzłów tribologicznych obiektów technicznych. Dla pełnej realizacji zamierzonego celu pragniemy zwrócić się do wybranych specjalistów o opracowanie referatów wprowadzających poszczególne sesje.

28.02.2003     Drugi komunikat powiadamiający o przyjęciu referatu, wytyczne do opracowania referatu.

23.05.2003     Termin nadsyłania pełnego tekstu referatu. Referaty mogą być napisane w języku polskim lub angielskim. W przypadku opracowania tekstu w języku angielskim niezbędne jest dołączenie obszernego streszczenia w języku polskim. Referaty opracowane w języku polskim powinny zawierać streszczenia w języku angielskim i rosyjskim. Przewiduje się drukowanie nadesłanych referatów w Materiałach Konferencyjnych, Tribologii, Zeszytach Naukowych Politechniki Łódzkiej i kwartalniku ZEM.

    BACKGROUND

    DAAAM International was founded on November 5th, 1990 at the Vienna Symposium, in order to mark the 175th anniversary of the Vienna University of Technology. The purpose of DAAAM International is to provide a world forum for engineers, scientists and industrial managers to present and discuss the current status and impact of advanced manufacturing and automation. During the last ten years the activities of DAAAM International are supported from the scientists and experts from more than fifty countries all over the world. During the last three years the DAAAM International focused activities on the regional and global long-term cooperation between (technical) universities. The results of this initiative is the founding of the University Network of DAAAM International Vienna and the start of two long-tenn cooperation projects. The founding document of the Network is the University Charter of Dubrovnik, signed on October 23rd 1997 in Dubrovnik, Croatia.
    The main aims of DAAAM are: • To organize the annual DAAAM International Symposium. • To found and organize the University Network of DAAAM International Vienna as a strategie alliance and permanent international open platform for long-term co-operation and partnership in fields of technology, research and education. • To organize long - term projects initially known as Interuniversitary Doctoral Studies • To organize a pilot project initially known as Virtual University. • Exchange of people, scientific and teehnieal information. • International cooperation among scientists and engineers. • R & D, education and industrial application. • To cooperate with other national and international organizations in matter of common interest. • International scientifie and academic cooperation in the frames of DAAAM International Network for Advanced Technologies.

    The Organizing Committee invites authors as well as participants. The symposium language is English. Authors are kindly asked to complete the Application form and send it to the DAAAM International Vienna as soon as possible. One person can be the first author of one and the coauthor of another paper. The deadline for the papers submission is July 01, 2003. The papers have to be prepared exactly according to the Instructions for Authors. Papers will be subject to review by an international paper reviewing committee. The authors will be notified by July 20, 2003 about the results of reviewing. Authors must submit a diskette/CD with the final manuscript and 2 hard copies of camera-ready paper. The deadline for the submission of the final paper and the conferenee fee is September l, 2003.

    Information about University

    Samara State Technical University was founded in 1914. The range of State to the University was awarded in 1992. The University includes 16 faculties such as: Automatic and Information Technologies, Machine Building, Physics-Technological, Engineering-Economical, Electrotechnical, Heat-and-Power Engineering, Engineering-Technological, Chemical-Technological, Oil-Technological, Humanities, Postal Tuition, Initial Preparing and Improvement of Professional Skill and others.
    There are 115 professors and doctors, 617 candidates and docents work in the University.
    On the 70 chairs of the University preparing the specialists in 18 trends, 54 specials in practice for all branches of industry are performed.
    There are more than 18000 students, including 270 foreigners are educated on the all faculties including the filial.
    Synthesis of technical, humanities and economical spheres of knowledge permits to prepare of specialists of new type.
    The most important principle of the Technical University - the unity of education, scientific researching and engineer working-outs. The SSTU is a biggest technical centre of the Middle Volga Region. There are 77 scientific departments, including 16 scientific and engineering centers, 2 Researching institutes in its structure. The post-graduate studentship works In University.
    By problems of reliability of technological, energetic and transport machines more than 30 chairs and scientific departments of the University are engaged.

    Joint-stock Company "AVTOVAZ" (leaders by technical development G.K. Saharov and P.M. Prusov) conducts of working out the unity system of quality management, and technical maintenance of model series ofautomobiles of the ciasses A, B, C.
    Acad. N.D. Kuznetsov Specialized Scientific Technical Complex, «MOTOROSTROITEL», SCBM (Leaders: Y.A. Gritsenko, I.L.Shitarev, V.N. Ovchinnicov) work on creating the aviation engine of 6-th generation NK-93, power station with heightened reliability, gas transferring aggregates of new generation.
    Kuibyshev Rail Way (Chief engineer V.P. Mohonko), Samara Academy of Communication Way (professors Y.M. Tarasov, Y.Y. Prosvirov, V.L. Grigoryev and others) in company with Volga Region Department of Russian Engineer Academy induce corporative program of quality management for increasing the technical level of exploitation, reliability and safety of transferring.
    SSTU works out the methods of increasing the quality and reliability of technological, energetic machines and control systems (professors E.Y.Rappoport, D.G. Gromakovsky, A.F. Denisenko, B.L. Shtrikov, A.M. Abakumov, P.A. Kulakov and others), methods of diagnostics (professors Y.I. Steblev, N.V. Diligensky, M.Y.Livshits, B.K. Chostkovsky), new resource saving and repairing technologies (professors A.P. Amosov, A.I. Shchelokov, V.F. Putko, N.V. Nosov and others).
    The SSAU (Corresponding member of RAS V.A. Soifer, professors Y.V, Shahmatov, L.M. Logvinov, Y.L. Tarasov, A.I. Belousov, V.A. Komarov and others) perform the works by ensuring the reliability of space apparatus, aviation engines, constructions of planes, control systems and communications.
    Joint-stock companies «Samaraneftegaz», «Samaratransgaz», «Prevolzhskie nefteprovody», «Yugo Zapad Transnefteproduct» (Chioengineers A.P. Obihod, O.A. Stepanenko, A.G. Budnik, V.V. Ivanenkov) perform renovation and modifing of equipment for defence (pipe-lines, increasing the reliabililty on oil and gas extracting, transferring and keeping.
    Joint-stock company «Volgotanker» works out the systems of application of altemative kind of fuels, control of working the tanker fleet, technology of vessels hulis renovation.
    Works of collaborators of company "YUKOS", chemists of Tolyatti, Novokuibyshevsk, Chapaevsk, Syzran, and other towns of Samara region are devoted to ensuring the high level of reliability and safety.

    Requirements to Papers

    The annotation must contain the title of report, surnames of authors, text not exceeding l page on Russian or English languages. Type - Times New Roman, size - 11 pt, single space between lines.
    Full text of paper in the Russian or English languages must be performed with using editor Word for Windows version 6.0 or higher. The text not exceeding 6 pages must be sent us before 1.09.2003 by E-mail or by post. Paper must be presented on diskette 3,5" and in the form of hard copy on white sheets of the format A4, printed on qualitative printer.
    Text of a paper must be printed with the type Times New Roman, size - 12 pt. Pages without numeration.
    Title of paper is printed in center with big letters without dividing into syllables, type - Times New Roman Bold. On the next line, beginning from left side, initials and surnames of the authors, the names of organization, city, state are written.
    Text of paper is written with single space, tabulation - 5 mm and evening by width, with automatic dividing into syllables. In conclusion of paper, after one line from the text, the bibliographic list under the title "LITERATURE" is printed. References on literature sources in the text are given in square brackets.

    Persons interested in presenting a paper should submit an abstract of approximately 500 words to the Conference Organising Committee no later than the above deadlines.     Pretoria, the administrative capital of South Africa, offers the technical facilities and the cultural amenities of an international city, and has amongst the best scientific and academic institutions in Africa. Pretoria has a pleasant and sunny climate and a most scenic natural setting.

    There are many interesting attractions in and around Pretoria including the Union Buildings and Botanical Gardens. It is a central departure point for the intriguing "Lost City", and for the Kruger National Park, the Pilanesberg Game Reserve, located in an extinct volcano, and many other interesting attractions. Pretoria is oniy 40 minutes from Johannesburg International Airport, and is linked to the restof the country by air, road and rail. To Durban with its beaches, and to Gape Town with its history and magnificent scenery.

    The University of Pretoria Conference Centre is on the University Campus, and is centrally situated close to hotels, guest houses, shops and banks.
